Bloom in Your Winter Season, Misc

INTERVIEW WITH KATHI MACIAS

By Deborah Malone and Rita Prochazka

Questions by Rita:

Welcome Kathi! Can you share some of your testimony with our readers?

I was not raised in a Christian home but always believed in God. I accepted Christ as my Savior on July 5, 1974, while going through a turbulent personal time. I was praying and saw Jesus carrying His cross and walking toward Calvary. When He drew up even with me, He looked straight in my eyes and said, “I did it for you.” I received Him on the spot – the best decision I ever made.

Debbie here Kathi! That gives me chills. Thank you for sharing with us such an intimate moment between you and our Lord.

In your walk with God in this season of your life, what have you learned?

I suppose what I’ve learned in this “senior season” of mine is how very little I know (though I once thought I knew quite a bit). It is humbling but wonderful to realize how patient God has been with me all these years.

How have you prepared/been prepared for your ministry?

I attended Bible college in the 80’s/90’s just before God opened many ministry doors for me.

Questions from Deborah

Kathi, what would your advice be to other “seasoned” women on ways to stay active in ministry?

Be open to new directions, even at this stage in our lives/ministries. I am no longer writing books of my own (after publishing more than 50), but instead am concentrating on helping others write their stories of God’s faithfulness in their lives. What a blessing that is turning out to be!

Tell us a little about your ministry.

For several decades now, I have written both Christian fiction and nonfiction, have served on a pastoral care team at a large Southern California church, and have traveled extensively to speak at conferences, women’s events, etc. At present I am serving in my home church as a mentor to other women.

What challenges have you had to overcome in this time of your “seasoned” ministry?

I find that I tire easily and have to seek God about “pacing myself” according to His purposes. If I remember to do that, everything goes much more smoothly.

Kathi, thank you so much for stopping by and sharing a little part of your life and ministry with us. I know it will be encouraging to many others!

Kathi Macias is an award-winning author of more than 50 books, including the 2011 Golden Scrolls Novel of the Year, Red Ink. A popular speaker at writers’ conferences and women’s events, Kathi lives in Southern California with her husband, Al.
